1535 - Penstemon (Garden) - 2006-08-18 (Dimension: 462 x 538 pixels - Counter: 2595) unknown penstemon seedling Photographer: Barbara Lewis Note: 25 cm tall in bloom, flower is 1/2 cm. The plant gives a graceful, airy, frothy appearance and is most appealing to look at. The leaves are entire, long and narrow and spaced quite widely on the blooming stem (inflorescence?). On the basal rosette the leaves are quite long (about 7 1/2 cm) and "congested" with branches off of branches. There are about 8-9 buds on each little bloom stem (verticillaster?) The flower itself blue/lavender (blue on the interior and lavender on the exterior. When I looked at the anthers with a hand lens they looked purple-like with no distinct shape. The staminode was deep in the flower (corolla?) and looked hairy and yellowish. In looking at the stem and leaves with a hand lens, the leaves appeared to have fuzz (puberlent?) on both sides and are deep green in color. Also there is "fuzz" on the stem I think.
