2887 - AlpenPix (Wild) - 2010-12-31 (Dimension: 1742 x 2338 pixels - Counter: 7005) Astragalus alpinus Locality: USA - Colorado - Peak 7 Area, Summit County, Colorado, elevation 9,700 feet, growing among lodgepole pine and Engelmann spruce. Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: Alpine Milkvetch stands between 4 and 10 inches tall, depending on the fertility of the soil, and blooms in mid-July. It can be a nice addition to an informal or wildflower garden but its rhizomatous behavior quickly becomes a problem in a formal garden.
