2784 - AlpenPix (Wild) - 2010-12-03 (Dimension: 2318 x 1762 pixels - Counter: 5554) Claytonia lanceolata Locality: USA - Utah - North Skyline Drive, Sanpete County, Utah, at about 9,000 feet elevation. Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: The Lance-leaved Spring Beauties in this area were so profuse they looked like melting patches of snow! Hundreds of thousands of them covered the floor of the open coniferous forest, extending down to open meadows and wetlands. Most were white but some were deep pink. They stood only 2 to 3 inches tall. Unlike C. megarhiza, this little beauty grows from a marble-sized corm. This photo set was taken May 18, 2009.
