Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: Hesperaloe parviflora (Texas Red Yucca) is a common, xeric ornamental species in Laughlin, Nevada and neighboring Bullhead City, Arizona. Blooming in March, it produces conspicuous sprays of coral to scarlet flowers and, later, large, woody capsules brimming with large, flat, black seeds. It is a hardy perennial, rated to Zone 5. I brought back some seeds and they germinated in 7 days at 60F. (15.6C.). (Sent: Alpine-l@science.uu.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
