Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: Mertensia viridis or Greenleaf Bluebells is a common native species of alpine slopes in Summit County, Colorado. It adapts very well to garden life, especially if it is sited in full sun in a lean, dry soil. Too rich or too moist soil will encourage untidy, floppy growth. It attains a height of about 8 to 10 inches and blooms in mid-June. It is a gentle self-sower; never a pest. (Sent: Alpine-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
