2771 - AlpenPix (Wild) - 2010-12-02 (Dimension: 697 x 719 pixels - Counter: 6011) Pedicularis sudetica var. scopulorum Locality: USA - Colorado - West side of Hoosier Pass, Summit County, Colorado at Little Crystal Lake, elevation 11,500 feet. Photographer: Klaus Hendrix Note: Pedicularis sudetica v. scopulorum grows in full sun in boggy areas and along lakes and slow-moving alpine streams. Its "cousin" P. groenlandica often grows with it and since the two species have a similar flower color, people often overlook P. sudetica v. scopulorum, thinking its just another P. groenlandica. This species stands about 6 to 8 inches in full flower and blooms in late June to mid-July. (Sent: Alpine-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
