It has narrow, grayish-green leaves and prouces a striking, purplish bloom. It's a native species of the alpine zone in Summit and Park Counties. Each composite head produces abundant seed. Weber's Sawwort adapts well to a sunny location in loose, lean garden soil but it needs to be monitored because of its propensity to colonize large areas with its spreading rhizomes. In my garden, S. weberi blooms in mid- to late July. (Sent: Alpine-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
