Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: Few species bloom in our lodgepole pine forests but Senecio wootonii is one of the exceptions. In mid-July, its bright, yellow flowers and large, succulent, grayish-green leaves light up our forest floor. When located in full sun, this species reaches its full blooming potential. At less than 18 inches tall, it makes a welcomed addition to my native wildflower garden. (Sent: Alpine-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
