Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: The stunning red-orange color of Silene laciniata always catches the attention of passers-by. In its native habitat, it grows on partly shaded, dry slopes in association with lodgepole pine and Engelmann spruce at an elevation of 9,500 feet. In my garden, it grows best in my artificial bog garden. It's a late-bloomer and holds its flowers a for a long time so I rarely get any seed.
