- Note (2578): Jim McClements (2010-05-14) - I doubt the ID. While Gusman says the spathe interior may be "carmine". I've never seen one that wasn't green. The diagnostic feature of stewardsonii is the back and top of the spathe, where the white striping is distinctly raised. This plant could be ssp. pusillum, depending on the size. My guess is a form of the species. (Sent: Arisaema-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
- Note (2578): Erick Adams (2010-05-18) - I’m comfortable that this plant is within the normal range of stewardsonii for this area of Rhode Island. They range from all green to nearly pusillum-like, being virtually all purple with perhaps one thin line up the middle. I surveyed an isolated population yesterday for 2.5 hours, and plants with entirely green inner limbs are the exception rather than the rule, accounting for only 3-4% of plants I viewed. All the stewardsonii pictures I’ve posted to the gallery in the last two years have this pattern in one form or another. I’ll post some pictures of more intermediate plants when possible to give a sense of range. I added a picture of the fluted spathe for this plant. (Sent: Arisaema-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
