2403 - Woodland (Garden) - 2009-12-18 (Dimension: 2030 x 1550 pixels - Counter: 4858) Trillium stamineum Locality: USA - Jefferson Co., Alabama - Picture taken at HBG WFNursery, Trillium Research on 17 Dec 2009. Photographer: Harold Holmes Note: Note: Rhizome shows demarcation in color before and after decapation. This is the terminal bud section that was decapated in May 2007. The lighter color part of the rhizome is growth since 2007. It may confirm John Gyer's statement that there are 3 sheeths (or whatever John calls thoes things) per year and therefore 3 rings per year. I can only guess the darker color comes from the Jefferson Co. soil and the lighter color comes from my soil mix. (Sent: Trillium-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
