FloraPix GalleriesThere are two FloraPix Galleries, one for Temperate Zone Plants and one for Tropical Plants. Different Plants(man) Societies are using the the FloraPix Galleries for their pictures and reference and they have their own Sub-gallery that can be tuned to look like the Society Website.Normally you will search in the Sub-gallery only, but in some cases it could be of interest to search the whole Gallery. Depending on the interest of the user, this can be useful. For example a bulb enthusiast could be interested in pictures of bulbous plants outside the Sub-gallery, to search for example for bulbous Alpine plants. The Temperate plant Gallery is physically divided from the Tropical one and therefor not at once search-able. Sometimes this is a disadvantage (eg.temperate & tropical Orchids). On the other hand, it is not very practical to join the two Galleries together. |
Bulbs-L and your Gallery ManagerEach group in the FloraPix Gallery, manage its own pictures and has its own Gallery Manager. For the Bulbous Plant Gallery Jim E. Shields is your Gallery Manager. The language used in the Gallery is English, but sometimes it is better to have some information in a different language than having no information at all.In the upper left corner you find a link "Home" to the website of the Bulbs-L society. Be aware that there are more Bulbs pictures in the Gallery than shown for the group. For example the Alpine-L has its own AlpenPix Gallery including many Bulbsous plants, that can be found when searching for a Genus for example and checking "All" check box with the search. |
Access ImagesOn the left the index of Genera (or subjects) for this Group or of the search result will be shown. When you click on a Genus name in the list, the tree will open and all species will be listed in the index and in the main window all thumbnails of that Genus will be shown. When you click on a species name, all thumbnails of that species will be shown in the main window. This can vary from one to many available images of that species. Click on one of the thumbnails from which you want to see the picture and information. Some images are very large, but what you see is what you get. The medium size images are like the thumbnails as large as they are shown and the size (dimension) of the original image is given on the right site together with the image counter (how many times has the image been accessed). To open the full size image, click on the image and it will be shown in a separate window. |
Uploading PicturesTo upload pictures (JPG only) into the Gallery is quite simple. In the upper left corner box you will find the button named "Upload". When you press the button, you will get an upload form from which you can select your local jpg image file and fill out all the information about that image. If you know where your plant is from, please add as much detail about its origin as possible and state if the picture is taken in the Wild or Garden.Click "Send" and wait until the image becomes visible in the Gallery window. Do not Click twice, because than it will be loaded twice, just wait for a wile. If your connection is reasonable fast, you do not need to resize your images, when they are too large, they will be resized in the upload process. To add more pictures of the same plant, see next information box. |
Upload of Additional PicturesTo add more pictures of the same plant (details etc.), press the button Add Image next (right) to the already loaded picture to load and group the images together. Do not use the "Upload" button for additional images. You will get a smaller form in which you can select the local file and add notes only. All other information should be identical. Grouped pictures will be shown as thumbnails next or below the image selected and will be numbered in sequence. If you have an overview and pictures of details of your plant, please load both (three pictures will be ideal: an overview; the inflorescence (or in part); the flower) |
IdentificationsIn the upper left corner box you will find a button "Identifications", because the identification section is integrated into the Gallery as "Casus Pro Diagnosi".Pressing this button will make a selection of the available Identification cases and the button will change into the "Gallery" button to return to it. During the uploading process you can mark your image for identification. There are 4 identification states: Identification Asked (marked for identification); Pending (there are replies already); Solved (a name has been assigned by the Gallery Manager). You can narrow your selection by checking one of the radio buttons above the thumbnails in the main window. |
AdvertisingThere are Advertising possibilities here in this part of the Info as well as in between the thumbnails (size of 1,2 or 4 thumbnail blocks). The monetary support that can be generated with advertisement will be used for development of the Gallery and other projects, like the Encylopaedia of Bulbs Project. |
