Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: What a treat it was for Klaus and me to come across Steershead in full bloom. It stands a mere 2 inches tall and is easily overlooked in its preferred location among dense understory species. Once we identified its ferny foliage, we later found it in our campsite in hard, clay soil -- but it was not blooming in that austere location.
