Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: Fringed Gentian is one of few high-altitude annuals in the Breckenridge, Colorado area. In the wild, it's usually found on wet soils but in my garden, it will grow anywhere its seeds land, including in gravel walkways and hard, dry clay soil. It blooms in mid- to late August in the wild, a couple of weeks earlier in my garden. (Sent: Alpine-l@nic.surfnet.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
