2807 - AlpenPix (Wild) - 2010-12-05 (Dimension: 2318 x 1762 pixels - Counter: 6173) Oxytropis podocarpa Locality: USA - Colorado - East side of Hoosier Pass, Summit County, Colorado at elevation of about 12,400 fee. Photographer: Jane Hendrix Note: In late June, the alpine flora of Hoosier Ridge forms a multicolored carpet so dense that it's difficult to find a place to put one's feet without stepping on one of the little beauties. O. podocarpa is part of that mosaic. Its purple flowers bask in the sun amid finely-cut, gray-green foliage in close proximity to Trifolium nanum, Silene acaulis and Minuartia obtusiloba.
