Bromeliaceae Seedlings from BSI seed fund
Locality: US -
Photographer: Allan Ladd
Note: These seedlings are 8months old,
From the rate of growth, are obviously a large growing plant?
would like to know if these seedlings are correctly named?
&/ or does some one have an image of a mature plant ? (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
Identification:
- Note: Eric J. Gouda (2009-02-18) - Billbergia magnifica is difficult to keep apart from related species like B.brasiliensis and nothing much can be said about it. They could look that way!
- Note: Derek Butcher (2009-02-19) - 99.9% certain it is alfonsi-joannis. Ever since the photo of Racine Foster and her magnifica appeared in the BSI Journal 1989 p119 Floridians have assumed they have magnifica. In reality it is alfonsi-joannis (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl - 20090219)
- Note: Allan Ladd (2009-05-25) - 1790 - Bromeliads (Garden) - 2009-02-18
These seedlings have turned out not to be Billbergia magnifica but Billbergia braziliensis ,
as they developed the banding and tubular shape became obvious. (Sent: brom-l@nic.surfnet.nl)
