Identification:
- Identification (13589): Walter Till (2018-02-14) =Tillandsia bongarana
- Note (13589): Jerry Raack (2018-02-14) - Wow, this is surprising. In the description of T. bongarana (Swith & Downs, Flora Neotropica, Monograph No. 14, Part 2), it states that the leaves grow to 45 cm long and 4 cm wide, and that it flowers to 1 m high. These plants were all 50 to 100% larger than that. Growing to 2 meters tall with leaves easily 8 to 10 cm wide.
I thought I knew what T. bongarana looked like, and I thought I saw it elsewhere on my trip. I will post photos of what I thought was T. bongarana to find out what it really was. Note, these plants were very high elevation growing at 3231 meters in elevation, whereas Smith and Downs shows it at 2100 to 2400 meters in Peru.
