Puya unknown Garden
Photographer: Charles Dills
Note: The plant is about 56 inches (140 cm) from soil to tip of inflorescence. The inflorescence, from bottom branch to tip, is 30 inches (75 cm). The flower is dark blue with a dark green sheen.
I find it an attractive plant but it certainly is not "showy".
Identification: pending

- Add Note (1944): Dutch Vandervoort (2008-05-21) - Does it have a branching growth habit? Large, dense peltate scales? Blue-black, tubular flower petals? Think along the lines of Puya laxa, especially if it is a smallish puya with viciously sharp, spines, 1/8 to 1/4" part!
A possible source of this plant. - Add Note (1944): Eric Gouda (2008-05-21) - Not Puya laxa, but I do not have a clue yet.
- Add Note (1944): Walter Till (2008-05-22) - Using your images I have to follow subkey I in Smith & Downs. Floral bracts seem to be obscurely serrulate or denticulate which runs down easily to point 13 where petal appendagesare asked. This I cannot decide. If present, the plant would key out as the very varialble P. coerulea, if not I would end up with P. lilloi or P. spathacea: both are not your plant.
So I recommend to check for P. coerulea. - Add Note (1944): Walter Till (2008-05-22) - The inflorescence would fit quite well but foliage and lacking stem make this guess impossible.
