13724 - Bromeliads (Wild) - 2018-03-16 (Dimension: 1530 x 2050 pixels - Counter: 9693) Tillandsia tovarensis Locality: Ecuador, Loja Province - 14 km NorthEast of Celica near El Coposo at an elevation of 2465 meters. Photographed on a trip in June of 2015. We also saw this plant on the old road from Catamayo to Loja at an elevation of about 2460 meters. Photographer: Jerry Raack Note: While I just put up photos of Tillandsia maculata on this website, I thought I would also put up photos of what I believe to be Tillandsia tovarensis to show how different they are in appearance. Note the 3 to 5 spiked bracteate base of the branches, almost like fingers on a hand. Also note how much more narrow the pyramidal inflorescence is, and the foliage is not mottled as in T. maculata. quite a bit of difference. For size, the photo of the plant not in the tree is sitting on the ground, and I am about 175 cm tall. So, this plant is about as tall as I am, maybe a bit shorter. Also growing in the area, lots of T. porphyrocraspeda, T. sagasteguii, R. hamaleana and Guzmania variegata. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl) Identification: pending (Click on the picture to enlarge)
