13808 - Bromeliads (Wild) - 2018-03-24 (Dimension: 1530 x 2050 pixels - Counter: 9279) Tillandsia unknown5 Locality: Ecuador, Azuay Province - At 2800 m elevation on side road west from Portete (south of Cuenca). Photographer: Jerry Raack Note: This bromeliad likely belongs in the Tillandsia maculata/tovarensis complex. It is a very large plant growing to 2.4 m tall (computed using my height against the height of the plant I am next to. It grew terrestrially among trees which provided some shade, and in the case of the one I'm standing next to, it was at the base of a tree where the branches snaked up through the tree which is why that inflorescence is so crooked compared to the straight inflorescence of the other 2 plants shown. Even the first plant shown is in the early stages of anthesis and will expand in height and width as it matures. A large grower at high elevation.
