Tillandsia sp. Peru
Locality: Peru -
Photographer: Peter Tristram
Note: Collected in '90s but locality no known, probably Central Peru, Lima to Cuzco or Urubamba Valley. Similar to Eric's T. reversa post though I would say not. Height ~90cm, fb 25-28mm. Nor do I regard it as T. rubella due to inflor shape, branching, fb and sepal differences. It is similar to others in Nth Peru I have collected. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
Identification: pending

- Identification (6472): Walter Till (2011-03-28) =Tillandsia bongarana
- Add Note (6472): Chris Larson (2011-03-28) - I lost the collection number on this. The plant was collected somewhere between Huancavelica and the Urabamba Valley in 1998. This trip was solely in southern Peru - nowhere near known T.bongarana territory, as far as I know. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Add Note (6472): Eric Gouda (2011-03-28) - It looks very much like what I have identified as Tillandsia reversa. Both species are closely related I think. T.bongarana, only known from the type collection has few flowered red spikes. And in the key by Sm.& Downs they are separated by sepals more connate adaxially than abaxially (T.rev.)and sepals equally short connate or free (T.bong.). In my specimen the adaxial sepals are 5 mm connate. Peter can you check your flower?
- Add Note (6472): Peter Tristram (2011-03-31) - Eric, the posterior sepals are about 5mm connate and all are 30mm long. The fb are carinate (tip-beaked) and 32mm. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Identification (6472): Eric Gouda (2011-03-31) =Tillandsia reversa
- So it is more close to Tillandsia reversa and if not this species it is probably new! (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
