13705 - Bromeliads (Garden) - 2018-03-15 (Dimension: 1363 x 2050 pixels - Counter: 19453) Tillandsia confinis Locality: Ecuador, Morona-Santiago Province - On side road off of Hwy 45 14 km north of Gualaquiza at an elevation of 1580 meters. Photographer: Jerry Raack Note: These clumps were growing on the remnant of old forest trees in pastures in full sun. This is likely why the foliage has such fantastic mottled yellow and red foliage, and the inflorescences are such a bright orange-red color. No plants were in anthesis that I could find to photograph. Grew in concert with Tillandsia tovarensis/maculata complex, Tillandsia fendleri and Guzmania clavigera. Size was relatively diminutive as this species goes, although I did not take measurements. You can get an idea of the size by viewing the foliage in my hand in the one picture.
